Nail Reconstruction Tattoo
When the nail matrix is damaged from finger amputation, reattachment surgery, or trauma, the nail may stop growing or become severely deformed. Using hyper-realistic technique, we recreate the nail plate, lunula, free edge, and even a hint of gloss to look like a natural nail.

Who this is for
If showing your hands has always been on your mind
- Nail doesn't grow after finger amputation, reattachment, or reconstruction surgery
- Want to restore the nail shape on a skin-grafted finger
- Nail bed is damaged — nails grow short or uneven
- Tired of attaching and removing silicone prosthetic nails
- Missing toenails make barefoot or sandals uncomfortable
Compared to prosthetics
A tattoo leaves nothing covering the skin, so fingertip sensation stays intact and there's no risk of a prosthetic falling off during washing or swimming. However, tattooing uses color and shading rather than adding physical thickness. We'll discuss which approach best matches your goal during consultation.
Timing & sessions
We proceed once the surgical site has fully healed — typically 6 months or more after surgery. One session followed by a touch-up 1–2 months later is recommended.
Before & After
Nail reconstruction cases

※ Results vary depending on skin condition, scar tissue, and lifestyle. Redness, swelling, scabbing, or itching may occur after the procedure, and some color loss requiring a touch-up is normal. Expected outcomes and precautions are fully explained during the pre-procedure consultation.
Process
Nail design tailored to your hand
- ConsultationWe review your surgical history and skin condition, using the nails on your other fingers as a reference for shape and length.
- DesignThe corresponding nail on the opposite hand guides the shape, color, and proportions. Cuticle line, free edge, and lunula placement are all mapped to natural ratios.
- ProcedureRather than simple coloring, multi-layer technique is used — stacking pigments for the nail plate's pink tone, lunula's white crescent, the translucent free edge, and subtle gloss.
- Touch-upOnce the color has settled, any faded areas and shading are refined.
FAQ
Nail Reconstruction Tattoo FAQ
Will I lose fingertip sensation?
Since the procedure works on the skin surface, there's nothing covering your fingertip — unlike a prosthetic — so sensation remains unaffected.
Can I apply nail polish?
There's no actual nail on the tattooed area, so regular nail polish can't be applied. If you'd like, we can discuss designing the tattoo with a polished look during consultation.
Can you do toenails too?
Yes. We use the same technique for missing or deformed toenails.
Is it possible on a skin-grafted finger?
Yes, once the grafted skin has stabilized (typically 6+ months after surgery). Since grafted skin differs from normal skin in texture, thickness, and pigment absorption, we assess conditions during the pre-consultation.
How long does it last?
Color may gradually soften over time. Periodic touch-ups maintain the result. Duration varies by individual skin characteristics.
Can I get a photo consultation before visiting?
Yes. Send a photo of your finger's current condition, and we'll advise on eligibility and what to expect. Contact us by phone or KakaoTalk.
